  1. Mission statement
"Balle Molle Lachine 50 Ans et Plus " is comprised of players aged 50 years old and older. The league's mission is for all our players to have fun while playing a game they love. Each member is responsible for maintaining a climate of friendship and fair play. Sportsmanship is the key for reaching these objectives.
  2. All rules from Softball Québec apply except the following special rules:

  3. Rules of play
    1. Minimum age
      1. Minimum age: a new player must be 50 years old or older before the 1st of May of the current season.

    2. Number of players on the field
      1. A maximum of 11 players can be fielded.
We aim to have 10 against 10:
        1. If both teams have 10 players, we play 10 against 10.
        2. If both teams have 11 players, we play 11 against 11.
        3. If one team has 11 or 12 players and the the other team has 10, then the team with 10 players will be alowed to pick a player from the stands. The replacement player must be of comparable skill level and approuved by the opposing team captain.
        4. If a team has less than 10 players then the team can call upon one of the spares.

      2. A player may re-enter the game at any time.
      3. A team captain with 13 players may offer the services of his 13th player to the opposing team. If the offer of the 13th player is rejected the the captain will not be allowed to take a player from another team. If he accepts the offer of the 13th player, then he will be allowed to take a player from another team but only with the opposing captains permission.
      4. To play in the playoff on the 10th of September, only players that were on the original roster, and players that were reassigned to a different team, or assigned to a team before the 1st of August 2016 will be allowed to play on that day. This rule will also apply to the 2 last regular season games.

    3. Runners
      1. Sliding is only allowed on 2nd and 3rd base.
      2. A runner can steal home on a fly ball caught in the outfield.
      3. A dropped ball by the relay player is considered in play and the runners will advance one (1) base.
      4. According to the rule, a replacement runner is the last man out. If its at the start of the game and there is nobody out, then the last man on the roster will be used as replacement runner unless the last man is the pitcher, then the second to last player will be the runner.
      5. A base runner can only run if the ball is hit, otherwise he is called out.
      6. A line of no return is drawn at 30 feet from the home plate towards the 3rd base. A runner that crosses this line from 3rd base cannot return to 3rd base.
      7. A runner is prohibited from touching home plate, otherwise he is called out. He must cross the line drawn from home plate to the backstop.
      8. The catcher or any other defensive player cannot touch the runner coming from the 3rd base otherwise the runner is called safe. Any defensive player can touch the runner on a run down play 8. between 3rd base and home.
      9. On a play to 1st base, the runner must step on the orange portion of 1st base and the defensive player must step on the white part. The runner is called out if he steps on the white part and safe if the defensive player steps on the orange part. If on the same play the runner steps on the white part and the defensive player steps on the orange part then the single color base rule will apply. If there is no play to 1st base then the runner can step on the white part of the base. If there is a chance of collision, the runner can move to the right breaking the base line.
      10. Physical contact with the base runners will not be tolerated.

    4. Pitchers
      1. All pitches to hitters will be made by a player from his team.
      2. Each hitter is allowed three (3) pitches.
      3. To avoid being injured on the play, we ask that the pitcher to position himself between the protection shield and home base. If the pitcher is hit by the ball, the hitter is called out.
      4. The pitcher must hide behind the protective shield for his own safety. He is not allowed to make any defensive play.
      5. Any play will be stopped once the pitcher has the ball in his glove.
      6. The pitcher is from the attacking team and not the defensive one. An Infield Fly hit in his direction does not constitute an automatic out. The responsibility resides with the umpire to judge if the defending team is in a position to make the play. If it is, then the out is automatic. If not, the ball is fair and the runners can advance.

    5. Hitters
      1. A hitter can have a substitute runner. The substitute runner must be the last called-out hitter.
      2. A player arriving late can be added to the roster but must be added last in the batting order. If the player is still not available at his time to bat, he will be automatically called out and count as an out for the team. If he is still absent after that, he must be removed from the roster without any penalty.
      3. A hitter that uses a substitute runner must not cross the line between home base and first (1st) base, otherwise he will be called out.
      4. A hitter that is using a replacement runner and hits an over the fence home-run will be credited with the home-run. The substitute runner must make it to first base, all other base runners must run the bases to home plate.
      5. A hitter that has made it to a base can be replaced by a substitute runner. A substitute runner must then be used by this hitter for the rest of the game.
      6. A ball that hits the pitcher's protective shield will be called a dead ball.
      7. All players will hit in order of the roster.
      8. Bunting is prohibited.
      9. A semi-circle line is drawn from 1st base to 3rd base in front of the pitcher's shield. A ball hit in this area and is immobilized before crossing this line will be declared a foul ball. A fly ball that falls outside this area but rolls back inside and not touched by an opposing team player will be declared a foul ball.
      10. There is no base on balls.
      11. Infield fly: the umpire will make the final call. He does not have to verbally announce it.
      12. If a foul ball is caught by the catcher, the batter is automatically out regardless of the height the ball travels.

    6. Games
      1. A limit of four (4) runs per inning is allowed except for the 9th inning where there are no limits.
      2. Length of games: nine (9) innings.
